Police are investigating the death of a woman in Allentown. Police were called early Sunday morning to find Yosandra Corporan at a South West Street home and she reportedly died shortly after being taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. This neighbor says he's shaken by the killing. "I just brought home a baby girl so it's stunning how somebody could literally take a life like that," the neighbor said. 25-year-old Alexander Acosta-Quezada, of Allentown, has been taken into custody for the killing, which investigators are initially calling a result of domestic violence. An autopsy is planned today on Corporan, who was the mother of two children.
A Coplay woman is dead after a weekend accident. 48-year-old Lori Seip was killed when a motorcyle she was riding on collided with a car near the Trexler Mall on Hamilton Boulevard around 6 o'clock Saturday night. Investigators believe the motorcycle Seip was riding on was traveling east when a westbound car tried to make a left turn into the mall in front of the motorcycle. The driver of the car is identified as a 16-year-old Macungie girl. The driver of the motorcycle, 52-year-old David Seip, suffered only minor injuries.
The Lehigh County Coroner's Office is identifying a man found dead over the weekend on railroad tracks in Macungie. Fountain Hill's Gregory Wippel was found Friday on the tracks just east of Route 100. Wippel's death remains under investigation.
Officials say a suspected case of the mumps at Kutztown University is a false alarm. A university official says the student's mumps test came back negative. The scare came as Temple University reported more than 100 cases of the infection last month.
The State Capitol building is decked out in blue flags to start the month of April. Over the weekend, just short of 4700 flags were place to represent a child injured by abuse in the commonwealth. There were 40 black flags planted to remember the children killed by abuse. The event marks the beginning of child abuse prevention month by the PA Family Support Alliance.
Officials are reminding anglers that statewide trout season is still almost two weeks away. The regional Opening Day was Saturday, which includes waters in much of eastern PA, but the statewide start doesn't launch until April 13th. Fishing in the regional areas however is now okay to do around the clock, with a minimum size of seven inches. All hoping to hook a whopper should keep in mind that anyone accused of violating the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Code or rules and regulations may be cited and could face several penalties, including fines up to $200.
Residents of the New Jersey shore are being warned to avoid making contact with the tar balls recently washing ashore. Cleanup teams are being assigned to various parts of the New Jersey and New York shorelines today to hunt down and remove any tar balls that might have found their way to the beach. The origin of the tar balls is not completely certain, but the mess is believed to have been caused by an oil spill last week.
The Phillies are the only undefeated team in the major leagues after finishing off a three-game sweep of Atlanta Sunday night. Bryce Harper hit his second homer as a Phillie in the 5-1 win. He says it's great to be 3-0 but says the first series is only a first step in a marathon. "Of course, we're at the beginning of the season. We've got a long way to go. We've got to keep plugging along and if we have more wins than losses each month then we're going to be right where we want to be at the end," Harper said. Andrew McCutchen also hit his second homer in the win. The Phillies are off tonight before heading to Washington Tuesday in Harper's return to his ex-team.
