44-year-old Nelson DeLeon of Allentown was killed late Sunday night at an Upper Macungie Township warehouse. Investigators say DeLeon was found at a warehouse at Customized Distribution Services along Industrial Drive in Breinigsville around 11 o'clock Sunday night and died a short time later at the hospital. An autopsy is planned for today.
A Bucks County mother and daughter are under arrest in connection to the murder of five family members. "I wish I had better news to report, but this is important. I want to make sure everybody knows that the people who committed these atrocious acts are in custody and will be made to pay for their crimes," says Bucks County District Attorney Matt Weintraub. 45-year-old Shana Decree and her 19-year-old daughterm Dominique, are accused of killing Shana's 25-year-old daughter and her 13-year-old son as well as Shana's sister and that sister's nine-year-old twin daughters. Weintraub says all five bodies were found in a bedroom of the family's apartment in Morrisville.
An Allentown man is behind bars for allegedly repeatedly sexually assaulting a young girl. Carmelo Santiago is charged for the alleged attacks which reportedly began when the victim was nine years old in 2011 and continued for four years. Officials say the assaults occurred in more than one location and that the child was known to Santiago.
Auditor General Eugene DePasquale is unhappy that officials in 18 of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties reported accepting gifts, meals or trips from firms competing to sell them new voting machines. "It doesn't matter if the gifts were large or small. My problem is that anybody who accepted them, period, could have been swayed by some of those perks," DePasquale says. He says it just looks bad with so many voters on both the left and the right very concerned about the outcome of the 2020 elections.
Today is Pennsylvania's first state auto auction of the year. There are 360 vehicles for sale at Manheim Keystone Pennsylvania in Grantville today. Some of the vehicles were seized during criminal investigations, while others were used by the state. The commonwealth holds six auctions a year.
A third New Jersey child is dead due to complications from the flu. The state Health Commissioner says an infant from northern New Jersey perished last month. Officials say the baby had other underlying conditions and couldn't be vaccinated due to medical reasons. A toddler died earlier this month from flu-related problems, while the first pediatric death of the current flu season happened in late December.
A recent poll is suggesting state residents are less happy with the quality of life in New Jersey than ever. Monmouth University has announced its latest Quality of Life Index poll reveals that just around half the public gives a positive review of the Garden State as a place to reside. The 50-percent mark is a four-percent dip from last year's results and the lowest recorded since 1980. The poll achieves its stats by combining overall opinions with the performance of area schools, quality of the local environment and feelings of security in a resident's own neighborhood.
New Jerseyans looking for a job can now explore hundreds of seasonal opportunities to work at state forests, parks and historic sites. The Department of Environmental Protection announced Monday that gigs serving in several paid positions are now open and available. Anyone 16 years and older can apply for jobs of many types, from visitor service assistants and educators to trail stewards and lifeguards, although some jobs may require different ages, skill sets and availability. A Flyers fan favorite has played his last game as a Flyer. Wayne Simmonds was traded Monday afternoon to Nashville for Ryan Hartman and a conditional fourth round pick. GM Chuck Fletcher said trading Simmonds was a tough choice. "I've only been here since early December and I can just tell you that my dealings with him have been outstanding. Through this process he was outstanding. He's a true Flyer. A heart and soul guy," Fletcher says. Simmonds played 584 games in Philadelphia and scored 203 goals. He is scheduled to be a free agent at the end of this season.
